The Probicol IBS® capsule contains (minimum) 20 × 109 UFC Lactobacillus plantarum 299v.
Lactobacillus plantarum 299v is a bacterial strain that is part of the normal bacterial flora and colonizes the gastrointestinal tract, being resistant to the action of gastric juice and bile acids.
Mechanism of action

By fermenting carbohydrates it creates a nutrient-rich environment for the intestinal epithelium and a healthy intestinal microflora, and by competing for sites and increasing mucus production in the mucosa, it helps to inhibit the proliferation of pathogenic microorganisms.
Clinical trials have shown that Probicol IBS® has a beneficial role in:
– Balancing the bacterial ecosystem and intestinal dysbiosis in irritable bowel syndrome;
– Modulation of the gastrointestinal immune system and inflammation in irritable bowel syndrome;
– Reduction of abdominal pain, flatulence and abdominal discomfort in irritable bowel syndrome.
Probicol IBS® can be given orally to adults and children over 3 years of age, one capsule daily, as recommended by your doctor.
A 2-hour break is recommended between antibiotics and Probicol IBS®.
People with central venous catheters who have had recent surgery undergoing immunosuppressive therapy, as well as those with fecal bleeding should consult their physician before administering Probicol IBS®.
