Do you know how to get rid of the annoying symptoms of rhinitis?

Published on 10-07-20

Allergic rhinitis is an acute or chronic inflammation of the nasal mucosa triggered by an immune response to allergens such as pollen, animal hair, mites or mold. Over 30% of Europeans suffer from allergic rhinitis, the onset of this condition is often before the age of 10.

Nasal symptoms in children are similar to those in adults, such as itching and nasal congestion, rhinorrhea and sneezing. If the little ones develop cold symptoms every year during the same period, they may experience seasonal allergic rhinitis. Children growing up in rural areas (with a wide range of microbial exposures) are less likely to have atopy.

The reactions of the immune system give the patient a major feeling of discomfort and, in most cases, patients with allergic rhinitis have an altered quality of life. Patients are affected by olfactory function, taste and often sleep quality. Unfortunately, allergic rhinitis is also a major risk factor for asthma.

How is allergic rhinitis treated?

Treatment strategies for allergic rhinitis may vary from patient to patient, but antihistamines, nasal decongestants, intranasal glucocorticoids, or immunotherapy are generally used. Classic treatment can cause side effects such as headache, drowsiness, fatigue, dry nose, drug rhinitis, epistaxis. Sometimes it may have limited effectiveness in patients who are sensitive to multiple allergens.

Therefore, doctors who treat this condition also recommend probiotics that help balance the immune system, reduce the symptoms of this condition and have an adjuvant role in conventional therapy. One such probiotic is ATOPRIN®, which is a safe and side-effect-free combination of strains: Lactobacillus paracasei LP-33, Lactobacillus paracasei GMNL-133 and vitamin D3.

ATOPRIN®reduces the frequency and severity of ocular and nasal symptoms

Data from the literature support the effectiveness of Lactobacillus paracasei LP-33 and Lactobacillus paracasei GMNL-133 in the control of allergic rhinitis symptoms. Thus, scientific studies that have looked at a total of over 1,900 patients (including patients of different ages) have shown the effectiveness of probiotic administration in allergic rhinitis. The experts concluded that the administration of Lactobacillus paracase to LP-33 significantly improved the quality of life of patients with intermittent and persistent allergic rhinitis.

Other recent evidence also supports the effectiveness of Lactobacillus paracase LP-33 in allergic rhinitis in children under the age of five, with the probiotic having an additional benefit over an antihistamine to treat allergic rhinitis without any side effects in children.

Complex mechanism of action, no side effects

The intestinal microbiota interacts with the GALT immune system (lymphoid tissue associated with the gastrointestinal tract representing approximately 70% of the immune system) and modulates the immune response. The change in the microbiota is responsible for the increased incidence of allergies, so allergic rhinitis occurs as a result of the immune response mediated by immunoglobulin E (IgE) and a complex network of cells – mediators and cytokines. Immunoglobulin E (IgE) is involved in the allergic reaction triggered by an imbalance between helper T cells (Th1) and helper T cells (Th2) cells involved in triggering the immune response.

Lactobacillus paracasei LP-33 and Lactobacillus paracasei GMNL-133 are patented probiotic strains, selected to enhance the immune response in allergies by stimulating the Th1 cellular response and reducing IgE synthesis, while vitamin D is involved in modulating the immune response.

ATOPRIN® can be administered orally, 1 capsule per day, both to adults and children, being recommended for the significant reduction of the clinical symptoms of persistent or intermittent rhinitis and implicitly for the improvement of the quality of life during the allergic season.
